Trenton is the capital city of New Jersey, located in the Northeast region of the United States. Founded in 1679, the city has grown to a population of approximately 90,871 residents within a state of 9,288,994 people. As the seat of New Jersey's state government, Trenton serves as the political and administrative center of the state.
The city is home to the New Jersey State House, a Federal / Renaissance Revival structure that has been a landmark since its completion in 1792. Designed by Jonathan Doane (original); various architects (expansions), the capitol building stands as a testament to the state's history and governance, attracting visitors from across the country and around the world.
Trenton has served as the capital of New Jersey since 1790. Before Trenton, the state's capital was located in Perth Amboy and Burlington.

The building has been expanded and modified numerous times over the centuries, resulting in a complex of interconnected structures. Its gold-leafed dome was added in 1889, and a major renovation project in the 2010s restored and modernized the historic building.
